Refueling at sea

PT 107 refueling at sea

Another of the excellent photos sent to me by Bob Gosnell shows two PT boats of Squadron (Ron) 5 being refueled at sea by a PT tender.  The PT 107 is on the left while the boat number of the other PT is partially obscured by a sailor.  To the lower right of the photo, the sailors on board the PT tender observe the process from the deck of their ship.

Photos like this one truly capture the less glamorous but vitally important work that went on day by day to keep the PTs supplied with the basics and in a state of readiness for whatever might come their way.  The crews of both the tender ship and the PTs work together to get the job done and keep things moving forward.  There’s a lot to be said for taking care of the basics and the professionals aboard the PT tenders were among the best of the best.

  1. This is an amazing glimpse into what these crews probably regarded as a routine procedure despite the conditions and location.
