Robert Montgomery–Star power on PT 107. Bewitched!

PT 107 CO Robert Montgomery

The Hollywood Legend, Robert Montgomery, served as the Commanding Officer of PT 107.  Many of our generation may be more familiar with his famous daughter–Elizabeth Montgomery–who was the star of the hit TV series, Bewitched, which aired in the 1960s.  It was always one of my favorite shows growing up.  What an amazing discovery!  Thanks to Bob Gosnell for sharing the above photo and passing on the word that his dad, Leland, had served with Skipper Montgomery on the legendary 107.  Along with all the other PT officers, Montgomery received his training at Melville, Rhode Island.

As an outstanding actor who received two Academy Award nominations (Night Must Fall in 1937 and Here Comes Mr. Jordan in 1941), Montgomery served with distinction in WWII.  Among other citations, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the European Theater Ribbon with two Battle Stars.  Robert Montgomery was born in 1904 and died in 1981.  Like so many members of the Mosquito Fleet, he was a man of immense talent with a taste for adventure and the raw courage that was required to go up against adversaries that were bigger and better-armed.
