Women’s History Month

workers 3

March is Women’s History Month.  This photo furnished by PT Boats Inc. shows a woman factory worker in October of 1942.  She is working as a Joiner Helper on a drill press.

Before a year had passed following the Pearl Harbor attack in December of 1941, women had moved into the industrial workforce in huge numbers filling positions that were vital to the war effort.  Their skills, adaptability, and work ethic soon became essential components of America’s stunning capacity to produce the military equipment to turn the tide of war.

Just as this unnamed worker brought intensity and competence to her job, countless women throughout the country delivered the goods and kept their families together at the same time.  Their service to our country has earned them our enduring gratitude and respect.

Job well done!
