USO Show in New Guinea

USO Show in New Guinea

Among the USO stars who entertained the PT sailors were those featured in this photo taken in New Guinea on August 26, 1944: June Bruner, Frances Langford, Bob Hope, and Jerry Colona. Red Stahley was a huge fan of Jerry Colona and loved to see him on TV in the 1950s. He was one comedian that always managed to get my father to laugh. Perhaps Red and his buddies were able to see one of Colona’s USO shows in the South Pacific. This photo is from the archives of PT Boats, Inc. in Germantown, TN.

  1. My uncle Wayne, http://www.waynes-journal.com, saw this troupe twice. Once on Banika Island and later at Hollandia, New Guinea. These stars, through their unselfish acts, created a fan base that stayed with them forever.
